Lily Delivers!
Submitted by Epsomdave on September 1, 2010 - 21:32. Concord and around | Greater ConcordWith anticipation and dread I walked into the field this morning. Six cows greeted me. Lily, the seventh, was not among them.
Upon cresting the hill, I saw Lily coming toward me. A decided spring in her step was the first indication of her postpartum state. She also looked quite a bit less beamy. These were really good signs.
Lily's Pending Delivery
Submitted by Epsomdave on August 31, 2010 - 21:53. Concord and around | Greater ConcordOkay, so it’s been a while... a few things have happened around here in the past year and a half, most of which have led to a downsize/rethink/put-your-head-down-and-keep -going approach to life. I’m still on the farm, still have the full complement of animals, still have bigger gardens than I should have, and still have way too many projects on the books. But I have come to accept that this is the way life is and I am still struck with the occasional swell of feeling that this is what I am meant to do. There are more changes to come, but I’m optimistic that good things are afoot.
One Swing of the Bat Changed and Linked Two Lives Forever
Submitted by Ken Braiterman on August 17, 2010 - 23:45. Concord and around | Greater ConcordIf yuo're overf 60 and a baseball fan, there's probably nothing I can tell you about Bobby Thompson and "The Shot Heard Round the World" that you haven't heard before, except maybe that Thompson died Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Younger people might not understand how a single home run -- even one that decided a pennant -- could be heard around the world, and never be forgotten, or change two lives forever, and make them immortal.
The Game Ain't Over Till the Last Man Is Out
Submitted by Ken Braiterman on August 8, 2010 - 18:28. Concord and around | Greater ConcordThe oldest, possibly most important baseball cliche is, "The game's not over till the last man is out." Or as Yogi Berra put it: "The game ain't over till it's over." There is no clock. Every team gets 27 outs, or nine innings of 3 outs each. If the game is tied after nine innings, they keep playing till somebody wins. It is not sudden death overtime, where the first team to score wins. If the visiting team scores in extra innings, the home team still gets three outs to tie or win.
Who Was Your Favorite Mouseketeer
Submitted by Ken Braiterman on August 3, 2010 - 12:12. Concord and around | Greater ConcordI watched the Mickey Mouse Club when it first appeared in the 1950's, including the original troupe of teen-age song-and-dance people known as Mouseketeers. Everybody had their favorites. I was unhappy whne it came on because it knocked Howdy Doody off the air.
Don't they have anything better to do?!?
Submitted by Matthew Burke on July 13, 2010 - 10:56. Concord and around | Greater ConcordI get this question all the time. Don't these "hackers" have anything better to do than to create viruses? The answer here is pretty simple; they really don't. The world revolves around money it seems. These creators of computer viruses are doing just that; making money. I have had people think that it's a conspiracy propagated by the anti-virus companies to help boost sales. This in my opinion, is just absurd.

Thurman Muson Is Still My Favorite Yankee -- No Disrespect to Pudge Fisk
Submitted by Ken Braiterman on June 26, 2010 - 16:50. Concord and around | Greater ConcordWhen I lived in New York City in the 1970's, I rooted for the New York Yankees. (Go ahead and hate me if you want.) My favorite Yankee by far was catcher Thurman Munson. These were the Yankee teams that came to be known as "The Bronx Zoo." Owner George Steinbrenner hired, fired, and rehired manager Billy Martin five times. Martin got into a fistfight with Reggie Jackson in the dugout on national TV. And Munson and Jackson had a famous rivalry. All the friction played out in the media, who did not need to exaggerate anything for once
No time for amateurs...
Submitted by Scott Ives on June 24, 2010 - 13:53. Concord and around | Greater ConcordWhen Americans woke up to the news of a burgeoning crisis in the Gulf of Mexico, they had every right to believe that regardless of their political affiliation the president would handle this matter in a swift and professional manner. The man who made his political name, for his supposed coolness under fire would undoubtedly, successfully, resolve this problem. After the tragedy of Katrina, this president knows how to get things done and would not let the bureaucracy or politics get in the way of solving the problem....
