Mason's Day: A Celebration For All
If you haven’t yet visited the historic Strawbery Banke living museum in Portsmouth, tomorrow, July 10, is the day to go. New Hampshire Freemasons are hosting one big party there and everyone is invited.
To Masons, the daylong festival has special significance as it commemorates the 1789 formation of the Granite State’s first Masonic Grand Lodge upstairs in the William Pitt Tavern, which is among the buildings preserved in the Strawbery Banke community. To non-Masons and their families, the celebration is a window of opportunity to party in the open with a not-so-secret society and to experience the living history of New Hampshire, from pre-Revolutionary Colonial New England right up through the modern era (Yes, it’s true: Masons can go outside after sunrise).
The mid-day cookout is free. Entertainers and lots of booths and events for all members of the family are scheduled throughout the day. And, the buildings that make up the living museum will be open to all visitors.
Museum admission is without charge to Masons and their families upon the presentation of a valid dues card. For all others the price of admission is all the ticket that’s needed to participate in this memorable family event.
We Scottish Rite Masons of the Valley of Concord support Mason’s Day whole-heartedly and thank our Grand Lodge Unity Committee as well as our Brother Scottish Rite Masons from the Valley of Portsmouth/Dover for sponsoring and hosting this annual event.
We know and understand that you, our neighbors, have many different ways that you can spend your days. We’ll thank you in advance if you choose to visit Strawbery Banke tomorrow and join with us in a celebration of a very special day. The party begins at 10.
